The court also directed the occupants of the illegally constructed flats to give an undertaking within six weeks to vacate their houses by the given time.
In course of the last hearing, the court had asked Attorney General G.E. Vahanvati to suggest a proposal in consultation with the affected flat owners of the Campa Cola society. On Nov 13, the Supreme Court suspended till May next year demolition of the illegal flats in the Campa Cola Society minutes after the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) bulldozers, acting on another order of another apex court bench, moved in to pull down the flats.
Attorney General G.E. Vahanvati told the apex court that no specific proposal could be worked out for enabling new construction in the compound. The apex court added that the BMC will be free to proceed with against those who do not file the undertaking to comply with the May 31 deadline.
