Disapproving of Rahul Gandhi's remark on the deaths of his grandmother and father, BJP chief Rajnath Singh today said he wished a long life for him, but he was trying to exploit people's feelings by raising emotive issues.
"To exploit your feelings and emotions, he says my father and grandmother were killed. I, too, could be killed. Rahul Gandhi ji, Bhartiya Janata Party prays for your long life, but I want to say, who carried out the assassinations, you are well aware. But when the election time has come, indulging in baseless talk has no meaning, only to gather sympathy," Singh said while addressing a rally here.
The Congress Vice-President had in a recent speech, mentioned the assassinations of his grandmother and father and said that he too may be targeted.
Singh said he and other BJP leaders like Kalyan Singh were men of their word. He alleged that Gandhi went to homes of the poor and called the media to get himself photographed.
"Rahul Gandhi is marketing poverty like lotions are marketed on roadways buses," Singh alleged.
He said Congress had ruled the country for the longest period and it was responsible for the poverty in the country.
Singh also attacked SP and BSP, saying these parties spoke against Congress in Uttar Pradesh but then supported it in Delhi. He asked leaders of the two parties to withdraw support from Congress.
The BJP leader said the country's image has suffered and claimed that even a small country like Maldives does not listen to India. He said Pakistani forces had beheaded Indian soldiers, "but Rahul and Sonia Gandhi maintained silence".
Nobody objected when Chinese soldiers entered into Indian territory, he said.
The BJP leader said when Narendra Modi assumes charge as the Prime Minister, other countries "would not have the courage to trouble India".
