Bollywood talks about everything desi under the sun. It is a true reflection of Indian society, and it is only fitting that Bollywood talks about current events in a clever manner. But there's one topic that Bollywood hasn't yet talked about in detail.
Onions. The price of the humble vegetable has soared to a point where they are part of pop culture. Today, we give you a glimpse of how some prominent Bollywood movies would have been different if onions featured in their plots:
1. DDLJ: Kajol running behind a moving train, desperately trying to catch Shahrukh's hand, has been immortalized in film history. If onions had been gunning for their century back then, we would have seen that SRK had an onion in his outstretched hand, and that Kajol was actually trying to grab the onion.
2. The Race series: Both films are full of daring heists and robberies, usually of jewels or precious paintings. If not for the comparatively lower prices then, we might have seen Saif and co. trying to steal onions instead.
3. Movies with Pyaar in their titles: Would all have had slightly different names; in today's world, money always trumps love. So we'd have grown up with 'Kaho na pyaaz hai', 'Maine pyaaz kyun kiya?' and 'Pyaaz to hona hi tha'.
4. Jodi No. 1: Would go down in history not as the movie which introduced the smash hit 'Ande ka funda' to the world, but as the movie which created 'Onion ka funda'.
5. Munnabhai: Would not have tried to get into the lucrative professions of Medicine or Law; we would have had to watch Munnabhai Kandawala.
6. Lunchbox: Would have been the largest budget film in India instead of a low budget effort, if the lunchbox was filled with onions.
7. Ranveer Singh: Would have tried to steal onions from the zamindar’s house in Lootera, instead of the priceless idol. And Sonakshi wouldn’t have fallen for him; from her waistline, we don’t think she’ll be happy with people stealing food from her house.
