Will be happy to see Narendra Modi as Prime Minister: L K Advani

A month after sulking over declaration of Narendra Modi as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, party patriarch L K Advanifinally endorsed his candidature for the country's top job in the Gujarat Chief Minister's constituency, Maninagar, on Wednesday.

After opposing Modi's elevation, first as the party's campaign convenor for the Lok Sabha elections and then as the PM candidate, Advani, who is also Gandhinagar MP, at the inauguration of the Institute for Infrastructure, Training, Research and Management (IITRAM) in Maninagar, said, "The BJP will form the government after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and Narendrabhai will become the PM.''
Later, talking to the media, Advani said, "I will be happy if Modi becomes the PM."
Modi, who gave the inaugural address, said, "I am thankful that Advaniji has come to my constituency. This is not for a seat or a city but for the nation. I agree with Advaniji, the BJP will form the government in 2014."
Advani also lauded the good governance initiatives of the Modi government. "I have seen this quality in Narendrabhai for a very long time, even before he came to power. He thinks about how to do things that are not there anywhere," he said. Advani also talked about the development of Sabarmati Riverfront and said that when he first saw Sabarmati in 1945, he was disappointed, but today it is impressive.
In his speech, Modi slammed the Centre, accusing it of suppressing democratic voices, particularly in states that elect governments of other parties. "Those states that are particularly against the Centre are facing this problem," he said.
With reference to the IITRAM, Modi said, "We are late in setting it up. We passed the Bill, but the Governor refused to sign it. It was passed for the second time. Still the Bill remained pending for six months. They were determined not to let it pass till December 2012. Then we said, pass it in March so that we can commence with admission in June, but that did not happen."
