New Delhi: NCP chief and Union Minister Sharad Pawar has said that he can’t work with Rahul Gandhi because there is a huge generation gap between him and Rahul.
Pawar, however, made it clear that he will always stand with Congress and like-minded parties.
Pawar further said that Rahul is yet to prove his mettle.
Speaking to a TV channel, Pawar said, “One has to prove his mettle in administration. Rahul Gandhi should have joined the Manmohan Singh government. He did not join. I would have preferred if he had joined the Manmohan Singh government... definitely it would have been beneficial for him."
“There is no question of working together. There is a generation gap," said Sharad Pawar.
Dismissing rumours that he was in the race for PM post, Pawar said that he will not contest upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Reacting to a question on Modi wave sweeping some parts of the country, Pawar said, "I have contested 14 elections so far. In my experience of electioneering, those who begin much earlier will be disappointed."
Pawar said that in next general elections, both BJP and Congress may fall short of magic number in parliament.
"BJP might get some more seats. Congress might lose some. But the numbers may not add up," said Pawar.
Reacting to a question on rising prices of onion, Pawar said that his ministry has nothing to do with it because this matter falls within the domain of the ministry of food and consumer affairs.
He further added that his ministry’s job is to increase the production and the production of onion has increased this year.
"There should be some knowledge of ground realities. To increase the production from agriculture is my job. The production of onion is on higher side this year," added Pawar.
