5 MOST AWAITED MOVIES RELEASING THIS DECEMBER

2013 has been a mixed bag at the movies. While there have been some great movies, we are still trying to get over the fact that Vivek Oberoi is the most successful Bollywood actor of 2013 with Grand Masti and Krrish 3  netting in Rs 100 crore and Rs 200 crore respectively. We are hoping we can end the year on a better note with these movies.

Hunger Game: Catching Fire – December 6

The second installment of the Hunger Games trilogy marks the return of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in the big screen adaptation of Suzanne Novels’ book trilogy. The first movie was an unexpected success and marked the entry of Lawrence into the big league and Catching Fire capitalises on her stardom. The movie marks the turns in her character’s life after unexpectedly winning the 74thHunger Games and will also release in IMAX in India on December 6. Initial reviews of the movie are encouraging and worth a visit for fans of the series and Lawrence.

Inside Llewyn Davis – December 13

Inside Llewyn Davis was one of the top movies screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2013. And why not! With Joel and Ethan Coen directing, some great comic moments and some great country music peppered throughout the narrative, Inside Llewyn Davis is exactly the type of slow and languorous film that one needs amidst all the fast-paced nonsensical movies that we have seen so far.

Dhoom: 3 – December 20

Ok shoot us for recommending this one but seriously, how bad can a movie with Aamir Khan be? And if that doesn’t catch your fancy, there’s always Chicago and Katrina Kaif to keep you happy. All said and done, we expect Dhoom: 3 to be fast, fun and full on entertaining. Hey, at least it’s a Hindi movie we feel we can put on this list!

Saving Mr Banks – December 20

Saving Mr Banks is a Disney movie about well, Walt Disney. The movie, in which Tom Hanks plays the central character, tells the real story behind how iconic and legendary movie Mary Poppins was really made and how Disney actually sold his dreams to create it. It’s a typical heartwarming Disney film that also teaches you about Walt Disney. This one’s going to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

47 Ronin – December 25

While you would expect some nice fluffy animation movie to keep you company at the theatre, we would recommend you give this Keanu Reeves starrer. 47 Ronin tells the story of 47 warriors who take on an entire army in the fashion of 300. Watch this one for its breathtaking scenery and impossible action scenes.

Narendra Modi in Delhi: Congress attacks me to divert attention from their failures.

"This government has lost the trust of people and that is why its leaders are not coming here to campaign. They know they can't fool the people of Delhi with fake promises," Modi said in his address to a rally in east Delhi's Shahdara area.

Modi said the Congress had no issues to speak on and no development work to show and that was why it was attacking him to divert people's attention.

"They think that by attacking Modi, they will win the elections but the fact is that they have not done anything for the people. They just don't have the will to work for the benefit of people," he said.

Modi is scheduled to address two more rallies later in the day in west Delhi's Sultanpuri and Chandni Chowk in the walled city.

BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday criticised the Congress government in Delhi, saying the party has lost people's trust and that was why none of its leaders was campaigning here.
Attacking ruling Congress Government for failing to control rising prices, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Saturday alleged that the government lacked the intention to address the issue and alleged that its leaders were running away from accountability.

"Though inflation is the biggest problem today, Congress does not think so...You tell me, is inflation not one of the biggest problems?," Modi said at an election rally here.

Modi said price rise was under control during non-Congress rule like NDA and Janata Party governments.

"When Atal Behari Vajpayee was in power, was there price rise? No. Price was in control during the Morarjee Desai period also," Modi said.

Sharpening his criticism against the ruling party, Modi said the Congress wants answers from Gujarat for every issues affecting people here.

"Ye fashion ho gaya hai, Chunav Delhi aur Rajasthan mein hai, lekin jawab Gujarat ki sarkaar se maang rahe hain. (It's become fashionable, there are elections in Delhi and Rajasthan, but they want Modi to answer questions on Gujarat).

He further said Congress is afraid of facing people and it has lost the people's faith.

Obliquely referring to the snooping scandal involving illegal surveillance of a woman, Modi said Congress has done it earlier during the Gujarat elections without any success.

"They tried every trick to discredit me. But Gujarati people have defeated those attempts. Despite allegations that Congress made through Facebook and Twitter, people of Gujarat gave a befitting reply," he said.

The venue of the BJP election meeting was Shahadara in East Delhi, an area largely inhabitated by migrants from Bihar and other states.

"If Bihar and UP were developed in the last 60 years, would people leave their family and come to Delhi for work?" he asked in a bid to connect with migrants.

"Migrants from Odisha, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh are also in Surat and the city was awarded for best maintained city," he said, adding Congress government does not have the intention to do anything for them.

Taking a dig at the top leadership of the Congress, Modi said, "Our PM is a big economist. We never questioned that.Finance Minister is also very educated. We never challenged that."

"A top ranking Minister in the central government, who considers himself to be intelligent enough thinks he has got all the brains in the world and that the others are brainless."

"The same Minister said prices are rising because poor are eating two vegetables now. Tell me, are prices rising due to this?" he asked.

Promising good governance, Modi said "In Gujarat we have started concept of One Day Governance. Why cannot this concept be replicated in Delhi?"

"At the root of all the problems is bad governance. Congress is not concerned with governance at all," Modi said.

Stating that power is being provided at low tariff in Gujarat, Modi said "Congress claims that power is more expensive in Gujarat than in Delhi. This is false."

Referring to BJP Chief Ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan, he said, "We promise good governance and we are presenting an honourable person as our CM candidate."

Raking up the Commonwealth Games issue, he said "CWG was an opportunity to enhance our brand. Forget stealing money, they lost an opportunity to project Delhi to the world."

He said Congress has lost the people's faith.

Tehelka case: Tarun Tejpal finds 'jhooth bole' does lead to 'kauwa kaate' .

Irony is having a field time. Jhoot bole kauwa kaate, that old Indian adage used to be the tagline of Tehelka. The ad showed a politician making big promises to gullible voters, only to be heckled into silence by a bunch of crows.

The ad begins with a politician making lofty promises to gullible villagers.

Today, Tehelka founder's lofty lacerations have less credibility than the politicians making promises in the Tehelka TV ad. He is absconding following the arrest warrants issued against him in the sexual assault case levelled by a woman journalist from Mumbai.

As the politician continues to make promises, the villagers seem to be getting bored with his exhortations.

Not just Tejpal, but the entire Tehelka management has discovered how important it was to live up to the tagline. They allowed the organisation's image to be sullied by an individual's action. In the process of protecting the founder editor-in-chief, his deputy  Shoma Chaudhury did not only lie but cast aspersions on the colleague who complained of sexual assault by Tejpal. The defender-in-chief Managing Editor Chaudhury quit a day after the victim quit as the offender is now literally Editor at Large.

Pretty soon, the entire area is filled up with crows, making it difficult for the politician to say anything over their cawing.

Congress has destroyed the nation: Narendra Modi

Congress has destroyed the nation: Narendra Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi blasted Congress for  destroying the nation in its nearly six decades rule.

Addressing a raly in Sikar,Modi attacked UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for claiming to have made laws in favour of the poor but not implementing them on ground.

"When Babashaeb Bhim Rao Ambedkar made the Indian constitution, was it to keep the people of the nation poor or to keep them illiterate. The Congress has not fulfilled its constitutional duties and responsibilities and has destroyed the country in the last 60 years," Modi said.

He took a dig at Sonia Gandhi, saying when she addressed the people here yesterday, she claimed that several laws have been made for the poor.

"If a gun license instead of a gun is shown to a lion, he is not going to get scared and in the same way just making laws for poor was not enough and their implementation was also required," Modi said.

He said the UPA Government humiliated the poor of the country when it did not even listen to the Supreme Court and allowed several thousand tonnes of wheat to rot on railway stations.

"The rotting wheat was given to wine manufacturers at the rate of 80 paise but not given to the farmers," Modi alleged.

He also brought up the issue of inter-linking of rivers in the country, saying had the UPA worked on the dream project of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, districts such as Sikar would have been able to produce more through increased irrigation facilities.

Fearing bad luck, Vajpayee got his house number changed.

Fearing bad luck, Vajpayee got his house number changed

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee got his bungalow number changed from 8 to 6-A, Krishna Menon Marg, as the number 8 was considered unlucky, a response to an RTI query reveals.

RTI activist Subhash Agrawal wanted to know under what rules the bungalow number was changed.

In a letter (D.O. No. 652/ASA/G/04) dated May 19, 2004, Ashok Saikia, the then additional secretary at Prime Minister's Office (PMO), had written to Anupam Dasgupta, additional secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, urging him to change the bungalow number from 8 to 6-A, Krishna Menon Marg prior to its allotment to the prime minister after he demits office.

"We have been advised that it would be more appropriate that Bungalow No.8, Krishna Menon Marg is re-numbered as 6-A prior to its allotment to the Prime Minister after he demits office," Saikia said in the letter.

After NDA lost the elections in 2004, Vajpayee as caretaker prime minister, asked his office to request the Urban Development ministry to re-number his bungalow.

The earlier request was to change the number from 8 to lucky 7-A. But since the bungalows were even and odd numbered on both sides of Krishna Menon Marg, 6-A was ultimately chosen.

The RTI response also confirms that there are no rules and guidelines for such arbitrary change of government bungalows for personal choice of occupants.

7 Things Men Wish They Were Better At

We are good people with great existences. We have an amazing job, an incredible girlfriend and beautiful friendships. We solve problems like a pro, fix leaky pipes like a professional, and help women open jars. Long story short- we are near perfect! Near because, well, someone knowledgeable once said that no one is perfect. We are almost there. Yet, there are certain things we haven’t mastered to our best possible abilities. From giving compliments to saving money, these are 7 habits that we wish we were better (translation: best) at.

1)  Giving compliments

We have always been the victim while giving compliments to women. Be vocal, and your compliments will be perceived as insincere. Be very general, and they’ll feel we are forcing ourselves. Be creative and they think we are laughing at them. Such a pity! We only wish we knew how to master the art.

2)  Tying a bow tie

Things-Men-Are-Not-Better-At

Yeah, we are guilty of using Google to check out instructional videos that tell us how tie a bow tie. Neckties have never really been our friends and we are yet to figure why! And, though we like the idea of having our spouse do the job for us, we wish this wasn't such a rocket science for us.

3)  Not being able to quote sentences from books or movies

You know that filmy stuff your girl likes. Well, rom-coms have officially ruined our lives. Our girl wishes we were nothing less than a Shah Rukh Khan with the ability to romance a chair and charming her panties off with iconic film dialogues or quotes from her favourite books. Too much pressure, isn't it?

4) Giving gifts

A day left for your girlfriend’s birthday and all you’ve got planned for her is a birthday cake from a nearby bakery shop, because let’s face it – you’re busy, are mostly immersed in work so much so that there is no time to even play the latest X-box game. So, yes it’s forgiven! This is the last time you’ll say we are this unplanned, and for real this time.

5) Saving money

Things Men Are Not Better At

Almost every day while commuting from work to home, we tell ourselves we’ll cook dinner after going home. Almost every day, we go home and call a pizza from Dominoes. That’s Rs 250 per day, and even though we diligently cook on weekends, it amounts to Rs 1250 a week, and a whooping Rs 60,000 a year. This is actually a bit depressing, so we rather stop saying and start saving.

6)  Buying whisky and actually drinking it

Things Men Are Not Better At

We tried really hard but weren't able to bring ourselves to shift from beer to whisky, which is considered to be the ultimate man’s drink. And even though we somehow managed to get hold of a glass, we simply couldn’t take it down without making a face. Sigh! I’m tired, where’s my bud?!

7)  Wearing a white shirt without spilling anything on it!

We are generally never clumsy, unless we’re wearing a white shirt. Then we can’t pass the day without spilling something on it. It’s as if the white shirt’s day is not made unless it isn't covered in food. Ah, charming us!

Visionaries of Cinema

His last film ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns’ that released early this year left us speechless. He is back with another power-packed film titled ‘Bullett Raja’ starring Sonakshi Sinha and Saif Ali Khan. On the occasion of its release, we’d like to throw light on how Tigmanshu Dhulia has been getting it right with each film. We’re glad that directors with such unique filmmaking styles are finally getting the forefront. The face of Indian cinema is changing, Tigmanshu being one of the most important contributors.

Ferocity

Visionaries of Cinema - Tigmanshu Dhulia

No man in a Tigmanshu Dhulia film is passive. Whether right or wrong, honest or distorted, every single person has a lion’s heart. The characters in ‘Charas’ don’t think twice before taking life-altering risks, including the women in the film. Mahie Gill plays the stay at home alcoholic wife to Jimmy Shergill in ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster’ but doesn’t bat an eyelid before pulling the pistol trigger. When she decides to do something, there is no stopping her. Bedding his Saheb’s wife, Randeep Hooda is daringly unapologetic. So is Mahie Gill about choosing Saheb over him. It was probably Paan Singh Tomar’s fearlessness and valour that inspired Tigmanshu to make a film on his life. There are hundreds of people who get tricked and looted off their properties but only a few fierce ones have what it takes to be a man as fearless and ferocious as Paan Singh. In Tigmanshu’s world, there is no place for cowardliness. There is no right and wrong – only strong and stronger.

Cause Over Impact

Violence has always been an integral part of Indian films, in some form or the other. While those like Rohit Shetty equate action and violence to exploding cars flying across the screen, Tigmanshu Dhulia begs to differ. Like he recently said in an interview, it is the cause of conflict that matters not its impact. It takes a lot of sensibility as a story teller to differentiate between the two and Tigmanshu gets it right, almost always. Rather than telling us how much a certain character bled in a duel, he focuses on the reasons that led to the duel which makes the action even more impactful. Mahie Gill firing at Randeep Hooda in ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster’ may not be the best action scene in terms of execution but it was still quite hard hitting a moment.

Conflicts & Betrayals

Visionaries of Cinema - Tigmanshu Dhulia
© TigmanshuDhuliafilms
Nobody is safe in a Tigmanshu Dhulia flick. No, not even if you’re a ‘Saheb’. Bullets can be fired from any corner, at any time. And yet, such over the top violence is always justified. Tigmanshu Dhulia introduces the core conflict in his films in the first few scenes itself. The film steers closer towards the central issue steadily and there is nothing you can do but feel like a part of the scenario, occasionally taking sides. Such is the involvement he creates with audiences. Betrayal is the most common reason of conflict in all his works. Be it Irrfan Khan using Jimmy Shergill as a means to reach Hrishitaa Bhatt in ‘Haasil’, the wife cheating on her husband in ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster’ or Paan Singh’s brother depriving him of his ancestral property in ‘Paan Singh Tomar’, betrayal is what causes conflict in Tigmanshu’s films.

Stories Based In Rustic Small Towns

Visionaries of Cinema - Tigmanshu Dhulia
© UTVSpotBoy
The typical village setup in most of his films is as crucial as his characters. City life doesn’t excite him as much as the rustic backdrop of far off villages inspires him. These are the dusty, small towns of Northern India where everyone possesses ‘tamanchas’ and clans are constant rivals, eyeing each other’s property and authority.
The music of his latest film ‘Bullet Raja’ is already creating waves and so are the impressive promos. We hope he delivers another masterpiece this time as well and show and justify the tag of a visionary of Indian cinema.

Wedding Fashion for Men

Regal. Handsome. Fashionable. In trend. This is the groom you are going to be. The wedding season is upon us and it’s time to raid your designer’s store. Looking your best begins with knowing what’s best for you. And, since we know how much your wedding day means to you, MensXP spoke to designer Pawan Sachdeva who gives you an insight into the latest styles, cuts, fits and colours. It’s time to get your baraat ready, guys, the groom is about to make his entrance.

Wedding Wear

It was always great to be a man but since men’s fashion has grown exponentially over the last few years, it has never been as good as this. When it comes to picking your wedding outfit, it depends on what kind of wedding you’re having.
If it’s an Indian wedding you can choose between the traditional sherwani, the bandhgala or the usual kurta and pyjama. Of course, while the sherwani will always be the go-to, the bandhgala is catching on rather quickly and quite a few grooms are opting for this. No matter what you choose, ensure that you personalize your outfit and insist that it’s made-to-order.
If you’re having a western wedding, then nothing comes close to donning the classic suit or tuxedo. Here, too, there’s a lot you can do when it comes to fabric, colours and style. Suits are not just suits anymore; you can add dimensions by personalizing it and style it by opting for colours that deviate from the usual black.

Coming of Age

Wedding Fashion for Men

© Designer Pawan Sachdeva
Designer Pawan Sachdeva says, “Over the years, traditional Indian wear has evolved and has been modified and altered to create something new and unique. The styles that are most popular nowadays for wedding wear are Indo-western (these are a shorter version of a sherwani sometimes modernized by opting for a pant as a lower or a dhoti to give it a more traditional look), or a short bandhgala coat as a full suit and one button tuxedo is a classic as well as a very catching style nowadays.
If you want to wear something different, mix-n-match is the way to go - coordinate different types of shirts with suits; prints can be teamed with stripes; and colour blocking can also be a fun way of mix and matching - like a red bandhgala jacket with electric blue pants.

Wedding Looks

Pawan gives you five looks that’ll guarantee you look more regal than a prince:
(1)  A quilted jacket teamed as a full suit to make the look more formal.
(2)  A nice Indo-western outfit in some bright colors along with a dhoti, salwar or cigarette pants.
(3)  A tuxedo with a nice printed jacket along with a bow tie.
(4)  For the groom on the day of his reception he can have that prince feel to his outfit by taking a bandhgala suit with a jacket in velvet with rich Indian embroidery on its collar.
(5)  A basic suit with bright colour accessories like a tie.
These days, people are leaning towards brighter shades of colours. And when it comes to fabrics, richer fabrics such as velvet, flees and silk are the way to go.

Accessories

When it comes to accessories for the Indian groom, there are the traditional family heirlooms that you’re obligated to wear. But, if you want to wear something besides this, then you can wear a brooch, you can accessorize your turban, wear a kada or even an armband. No matter what you plan to add on, though, make sure that it complements your ensemble.

Tarun Tejpal
This is the first time Tarun Tejpal was spotted after the news regarding the sexual assault case broke out.

Speaking to the media, Tarun Tejpal's lawyer Geeta Luthra said that no one is saying that he will not appear before police. He will be present before the police when they need him. She added that Mr Tejpal has been given interim relief by the court on a personal bond. "He will co-operate, Mr Tejpal has shown his respect for the law."

The same court had issued a non bailable warrant against Tejpal, who has been accused of sexual assault by a junior colleague on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Ramesh Sharma has been appointed as the acting Executive Editor of Tehelka.

Shamina Shafiq: I thing He (Tejpal) should cooperate with the proceeding. By not doing this he is getting into more trouble . It is too early to come into any solution . As far Shoma Chaudhury is concern, there are certain issues that is to be answered

YP Singh: Police would have not given him that much time, where there is a lot of evidence to be required. Police have faulted in their duty . If there were no warrant taken in the NirbhayaĆ¢€™s incident than why did they give warrant to Tejpal

RPN Singh: Law and order is a state matter. Investigation and enquiry are under the hand of Goa police . MHA has asked for all the information from Goa Police, law &order is a state subject, no need to politicize the issue

Annie Raja: The delay that he is doing proves that he has committed a crime. He should make himself make available and should cooperate . Police should act in proper way and there should be no delay in anything. They should follow the rules and regulation of the NCW

Earlier in the day, a Goa police team on Friday raided Tehelka Editor Tarun Tejpal's house in Jungpura in a bid to arrest him but returned empty-handed after finding that he was not there.

The Police is also raiding various places in Delhi including his sister's residence. The Police will also raid late Ponty Chadha's farmhouse today. Armed with a non-bailable warrant, the team reached the residence of Tejpal, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman colleague, in Jungpura area of South Delhi a little after 6am and spent over 90 minutes.

One of the officials later said they did not find Tejpal in the house. Crime Branch personnel from Delhi police also accompanied the Goa Police team.

Tejpal's wife Geetan Batra refused to divulge to the police any detail of his whereabouts, police said.

Police left his house and may look at other possible locations where he could be found. The police action came after they rejected Tejpal's request for time till Saturday to to appear before them for the investigation into his involvement in the case of sexual assault that had allegedly taken place at a hotel in Goa earlier this month.

After the rejection of his request, Tejpal's lawyer said he would appear before the police today in Panaji and extend "complete and full cooperation" in the investigation.

Tejpal who is facing imminent arrest had on Thursday written to the Goa Police stating that he will appear before it Friday and extend "complete and full cooperation" in its probe into the case in which he has been accused of sexually assaulting his woman colleague. Advocate Sandeep Kapur said that a letter written by Tarun Tejpal has been sent through fax to the Goa police that he will appear before the investigating officer and join the probe Friday.

Tejpal's decision to join investigation came after Goa police declined his plea to extend the 3pm local time, deadline of Thursday till Saturday and did not rule out his arrest after he failed to appear before it.

A copy of the letter, addressed to Sunita Sawant, police inspector CID/CB PS Dona Paula, Goa, was made available to the media in which Tejpal described the sequence of receiving the summons issued to him by police and said he "requires a little time" to appear before it as he is not a resident of Goa.

"I have just been informed that last night, November 27, around about 10.45 PM, you had left the summons with my wife Geetan Batra Tejpal, asking me to appear at CID Crime Branch office at Dona Paula, Panaji, Goa on November 28, 2013 at 15.00 hours for investigation of CID crime branch PS Dona Paula, Goa Cr. No 27/2013 u/s 354-A, 376, 376 (2)(k) of IPC."

"Since I am not a resident of Goa, I require a little time to appear before you. I request you to kindly allow me to present myself for investigations on Saturday afternoon - that is, day after," he said in his letter.

Tejpal, however, assured the investigating officer that he will give his full cooperation in the ongoing investigation.

"I hope that is okay, I assure you of my complete and full cooperation. I am also sending a hard copy of the same by courier," he said.

He also mentioned in his letter that the Goa Police has declined to grant him time till Saturday to appear before it.

"We have just been given to understand that our plea for extension till Saturday has been disallowed, as per the news reported on the TV channels. Accordingly, please note that I shall be reporting for investigation to you tomorrow itself and as always assure you of my full cooperation," Tejpal said.

Earlier in the day, Tejpal also preferred to withdraw the petition seeking anticipatory and transit bail from the Delhi High Court which was to pronounce its order Friday.

Tejpal has been charged by the Goa Police with the offence of sexual assault of his junior woman colleague in a five star hotel lift earlier this month.
