Career Rules For The Modern Man

What do Abraham Lincoln, Amitabh Bachchan and Bill Gates have in common? All of them survived bankruptcy to go on to do great things in life. Failures didn’t stop these famous figures, but it has paralysed countless individuals in our country. Most men think failures are the end, only few see them as beginnings. Perhaps that’s what separates achievers from losers. To make everything simpler, we collate 5 rules for the modern man that will help turning their failures into success.

1) Keep Realistic Goals

Unrealistic goals will take you nowhere but doom you to failure. Everyone has a tendency of getting over-zealous and taking decisions in the heat of the moment, that’s nothing but a sure way to fail. For example, if a person hasn't exercised for 2 years, going to the gym twice a week is a better idea as opposed to going every day. Plan everything strategically.

2) Set Milestones

It’s nice to have larger than life goals and aspirations, but it’s also important to set milestones along the way. If you ever get on board for a big project, the idea of completion can be overwhelming to be really productive. Your best bet is to set smaller goals and gradually push yourself as the project nears completion.

3) Take Blame

Guess what’s our favourite game? Yes, the blame-game. We, humans, love to blame our failures on others or external factors. By pointing fingers, people often tend to sink into ‘victim mentality’ and learning from the failures become next to impossible. Therefore, it’s important we take blame and move ahead in life.

4) Keep To-Do Lists

This may sound a little childish but it doesn't make it less effective. We always overestimate our brain and think we can remember everything, thereby wasting a lot of time in the process. Write a list first thing in the morning or even one for the whole week, and you’ve always got it in front of you. We all have a lot going on in our lives personally, and it’s these little things that will simplify our career lives to a large extent.

5) Get Enough Sleep

Burning the midnight oil, pulling all nighters and drinking insane amounts of coffee is understandable only if you’re a superhero who has to save the world. For other regular people getting a decent night’s sleep is imperative. The rejuvenating power of a good night’s sleep can make you ready to take on the world in the morning. So, set the alarm and get your sleep.
