2013 has been a mixed bag at the movies. While there have been some great movies, we are still trying to get over the fact that Vivek Oberoi is the most successful Bollywood actor of 2013 with Grand Masti and Krrish 3 netting in Rs 100 crore and Rs 200 crore respectively. We are hoping we can end the year on a better note with these movies.
Hunger Game: Catching Fire – December 6
The second installment of the Hunger Games trilogy marks the return of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in the big screen adaptation of Suzanne Novels’ book trilogy. The first movie was an unexpected success and marked the entry of Lawrence into the big league and Catching Fire capitalises on her stardom. The movie marks the turns in her character’s life after unexpectedly winning the 74thHunger Games and will also release in IMAX in India on December 6. Initial reviews of the movie are encouraging and worth a visit for fans of the series and Lawrence.
Inside Llewyn Davis – December 13
Inside Llewyn Davis was one of the top movies screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2013. And why not! With Joel and Ethan Coen directing, some great comic moments and some great country music peppered throughout the narrative, Inside Llewyn Davis is exactly the type of slow and languorous film that one needs amidst all the fast-paced nonsensical movies that we have seen so far.
Dhoom: 3 – December 20
Ok shoot us for recommending this one but seriously, how bad can a movie with Aamir Khan be? And if that doesn’t catch your fancy, there’s always Chicago and Katrina Kaif to keep you happy. All said and done, we expect Dhoom: 3 to be fast, fun and full on entertaining. Hey, at least it’s a Hindi movie we feel we can put on this list!
Saving Mr Banks – December 20
Saving Mr Banks is a Disney movie about well, Walt Disney. The movie, in which Tom Hanks plays the central character, tells the real story behind how iconic and legendary movie Mary Poppins was really made and how Disney actually sold his dreams to create it. It’s a typical heartwarming Disney film that also teaches you about Walt Disney. This one’s going to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
47 Ronin – December 25
While you would expect some nice fluffy animation movie to keep you company at the theatre, we would recommend you give this Keanu Reeves starrer. 47 Ronin tells the story of 47 warriors who take on an entire army in the fashion of 300. Watch this one for its breathtaking scenery and impossible action scenes.
