Some of the world’s renowned leaders have distinguished themselves by the high standards of their educational qualifications. 

Education forms the basis of over-all development. Since leaders are expected to legislate for their people, a high score on education matrix is definitely more desirable. 

World leaders like Barrack Obama, Vladimir Putin, etc are known for their intellect. These politicians are well – read that helps them in taking rational stand on matters of national and international concern.  

Here goes a list of some of the most educated politicians of the world: 

      

               

1.         Barack Obama, a personality that needs no introduction, is one of the most educated politicians in the world. 

He was born on 4th August 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Obama studied in Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialty in international relations. 

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1983. Obama entered Harvard Law School in 1988.

 He was selected as an editor of the ‘Harvard Law Review’ at the end of his first year. Barack Obama was also made the President of the same journal in his second year. 

Obama, known for his aptitude was made research assistant to the constitutional scholar Laurence Tribe when he was at Harvard for two years. 

            

2.         Vladimir Putin is the President of Russia. He has been in office since 7th May, 2012. Putin has served as the Prime Minister of Russia too from 1999 to 2000 and then from 2008 to 2012. 

Between this period, he served as Russian President from 2000 to 2008. Putin as a young boy was rowdy. But as he grew up, he became more sincere. 

He showed keen interest in sports and academics. He graduated from the International Law branch of the Law Department of the Leningrad State University in 1975. 

While at the University he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and remained a member until the party was dissolved in December 1991.

3.         David Cameron is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party. He represents Witney as its Member of Parliament. 

Cameron studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Brasenose College, Oxford, gaining a first-class honours degree in 1988. 

He was described by his tutor, Professor Vernon Bogdanor, as "one of the ‘ablest’ students he has ever taught, with ‘moderate and sensible Conservative’ political views”.

 He then joined the Conservative Research Department and became Special Adviser to Norman Lamont, and then to Michael Howard. David Cameron was Director of Corporate Affairs at Carlton Communications for seven years.

4.         Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe is the current Prime Minister of Ethiopia. He was born on 19th July 1965. In 1988, Hailemariam received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Addis Ababa University. 

He subsequently worked as a graduate assistant in the Arba Minch Water Technology Institute (now Arba Minch University). 

After two years he won a scholarship to Tampere University of Technology in Finland, where he earned a master's degree in sanitation engineering. 

When Boshe returned to his country from Finland, he worked in the academic department for over 13 years. He has also earned an MA in Organizational Leadership at Azusa Pacific University, California, US. 

5.         Heinz Fischer is the current President of Austria. He took office on 8 July 2004 and was re-elected for a second and last term on 25 April 2010. 

He attended the Gymnasium school and showed special interest in humanities. Fischer completed his high school in 1956. He studied law at the University of Vienna, earning a doctorate in 1961. 

In 1963, at the age of 25, Fischer spent a year volunteering at Kibbutz Sarid, northern Israel. Apart from being a politician, Fischer also pursued an academic career, and became a professor of Political Science at the University of Innsbruck in 1993.

6.         Tony Abbott is the incumbent Prime Minister of Australia. He has been in office since 2013. Abbott happens to be the 28th PM of Australia. 

Tony Abbott was born in London, England on 4th November, 1957.  Prior to entering Parliament, Abbott studied law and economics. He attained Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sydney. 

After graduation he went on to pursue Master of Arts in Philosophy. He also took up politics and completed Masters in Politics and Economics as a Rhodes Scholar at The Queen's College, Oxford. 

Tony Abbott was an excellent scholar and one of the achievers in his University. 

7.         Lee Hsien Loong is the 3rd and incumbent Prime Minister of Singapore. He has been in office since 2004.  

Lee studied at Nanyang Primary School and received his secondary education at Catholic High School, before going on to National Junior College. Here he learnt to play the clarinet.

In 1971, he was awarded a President's Scholarship and Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship by the Public Service Commission to study Mathematics at Trinity College, University of Cambridge.

 He graduated in 1974 with first class honours in mathematics and a Diploma in Computer Science (with distinction). In 1980, he completed a Master of Public Administration at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

8. Hassan Rouhani is the President of Iran. He has been in office since 2013. Rouhani is the 7th President of the country. He was a scholar of Religion in 1960. 

Rouhani studied Theology at Semnan Seminary and then moved on to Qom Seminary in 1961. Apart from Religion, he studied other subjects too and enrolled himself to the University of Tehran in 1969, and obtained a B.A. degree in Judicial Law in 1972.

 In 1973, he entered Military service. Rouhani continued his studies at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland, graduating in 1995 with an M.Phil. degree in Law. 

His thesis was on the Islamic legislative power with reference to the Iranian experience. Rouhani also had a doctorate in Constitutional Law. 

9.         Ma Ying-Jeou is the President of Taiwan (Republic of China). He earned his LL.B. from National Taiwan University in 1972. He pursued advanced studies in the United States, first earning an LL.M. from New York University Law School in 1976 and then an S.J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1981. 

After receiving his LL.M., Ma worked as an associate for a Wall Street law firm in New York and as a legal consultant for a major bank in Massachusetts in the US before completing his doctoral studies.

10.        Helle Thorning-Schmidt is the Prime Minister of Denmark. She has been in office since 3rd October 2011. She is also the Leader of the Social Democrats party. She is the first woman in Denmark to hold either post. 

Helle studied political science at University of Copenhagen and earned a degree in 1994. She also holds a master's degree in European studies specialising in policy and public administration from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, where she studied from 1992 to 1993. 

Helle Thorning-Schmidt is fluent in English and French. She joined Social Democrat party during her studies in Belgium in 1993.
