In Rampur, Rahul attacks UP government, NDA and bureaucracy

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was on a roll on Wednesday as he went about addressing rallies across Uttar Pradesh. And what was common among those rallies? His tirade against the Akhilesh Yadav-led state government.

After attacking the Samajwadi Party in his rally at Aligarh, he left no stone unturned at his second rally of the day at Rampur. He started off with the Muzaffarnagar riots and said, "In Muzaffarnagar, people told me political parties are responsible for the riots. The common people and journalists suffered and died."

Continuing in the same vein as he did in Aligarh, he referred to the food security bill and said, "We are now giving you a new right. UP Govt is not implementing it. It is food security. Earlier, people slept on empty stomachs. We have changed this forever. Now, nobody will sleep hungry. Our new slogan is 'Bhar pet khayenge, Congress layenge'. The UP government doesn't want to bring this scheme due to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. You must also exert pressure on the UP govt to implement the scheme so that people can benefit from it. There cannot be a bigger right than food security. And we guaranteed that UPA will give Rs.1 per Kg wheat. Earlier, efforts were made to stall this scheme in Parliament. Soniaji and Manmohan Singh and we fought to bring it in."

He also spoke about growth and development for Rampur and said, "The rest of the country is bringing in industries but in Rampur the existing industries are shutting down. This has caused a lot of damage to people. This is not fair there should be equal growth."

Promising development and growth for all under the Congress and at the same time attacking the SP government in the state, he said, "Congress party's vision is Indian vision. We do politics on the issues of rights. We do not want to leave any community behind. We say live in peace and talk about employment and development. We will have to work for the poor. There is no development under Samajwadi Party. Until there will be efforts for employment, there will be no progress."

Speaking about land acquisitions, he said, " People died in Aligarh, Bhataparsol. We fought for three years to bring in the Land Bill. The farmers and those who work on the farms will benefit the most from this bill. Efforts were made to stall the Bill because political parties thought the Congress would benefit from the Bill."

He promised that the Congress would continue to fight for the poor and their rights and said that women were the strength of the country. "Women and youths will change this country. The Samajwadi Party and BSP and BJP are closed parties. They won't allow women to grow. Wherever women were given rights those states developed. Congress party is for women's reservation. We have already done so in Panchayats and we will now implement it in the Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha."

He also attacked the bureaucracy and said, "I have been in politics since last 9 years. A common man's woes are not heard properly by the government and the bureaucracy. The bureaucrats and political leaders should be terrified of the people's power. The more we empower people the more the country will gain. If we won't empower the sarpanches, then the common man's voice will not be heard by the government. Congress wants to empower people through RTI so that the people's voice is heard."

" In 2014, it will be a poor man's government, a government of youths. We will empower every section of society. I am not scared and there is no one to scare us."

He also attacked the Opposition parties and said, "The Opposition parties ask us about what we have done in the last 8 years. They do not understand a poor man's problem. They talk about growth rate and give incorrect data. India has grown the most during last 10 years. The Opposition's India Shining slogan was rejected by the people."
