SACHIN’S LAST DAY OF TEST CRICKET SHOULD BE DECLARED A PUBLIC HOLIDAY

achin Tendulkar will represent India in a cricket match for the last time on November 18. It’s a Monday – a working day. Should it be declared a day off to honour India’s greatest sporting legend? Consider these points:

a) With 34,000 runs and 100 centuries, Tendulkar is not just a cricket legend but also India’s most revered sporting icon.

b) In 1983, when India won the World Cup, PM Indira Gandhi had declared a public holiday in celebration.

c) Cricket fans across India are likely to bunk work to catch Tendulkar playing for one last time, leading to massive absenteeism anyhow.
  • Given this, and Tendulkar’s massive contribution to Indian sport, should the government of India declare November 18 a public holiday? (Y/N)
     Yes  No
