Yo Yo Haryana jeetega:
Yo Yo Haryana jeetega: Rapper Honey Singh puts the beat in INLD's step
What, pray, has the singer to do with the polls, you might ask. Well, he has lent his vocal chords to the political campaign of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and his jingles have proved to be a smash hit among the party’s target group: the youth.
His work has come as a refreshing break from the monotony of the run-of-the-mill, drab recycled songs being used by other parties.
His bubbly, tuneful song `Yo Yo gailay naachega, Tau ki maati ka ye ganna charon or bajega, Yo Yo gailay tum bhi gao, and jeetaga jeetega jeetega, Haryana jeetega’ has already become a craze among the youth.
The music is catchy and the beats beg you to dance. It is the promotional song of the INLD in its campaign through FM radio and television channels. But even the party never dreamed that the song would become so popular in such a short time.
Karan Chautala, son of Abhey Singh Chautala, had released the poll songs in Chandigarh only three days ago.
“We have tried to convey the ideals of Chaudhary Devi Lal to the people of Haryana, especially the youth. While the songs of Yo Yo were attractive, bubbly, lively and tuneful, songs of other parties were misdirected and negative. The song will help attract young voters to the party", Karan said.
The foot-tapping rap number is in Haryanvi and easily understandable, he added.
To take maximum advantage of the song, the INLD has uploaded it on WhatsApp, You Tube and other social media sites. Yo Yo’s songs mark a generational change in the functioning of the party.
This has been made possible by the fourth generation Chautalas who have only recently become active in Haryana’s politics. Ajay Chautala’s son, Dushyant Chautala has already become an MP, beating in the process, a politician of Kuldeep Bishnoi's stature in the Hisar Lok Sabha poll early this year.
His brother Digvijay Chautala has also entered politics and is actively campaigning for the INLD in the absence of their father Ajay Singh Chautala, who is serving a jail term in the JBT teachers scam case.
Similarly, the foreign educated Karan Chautala, son of Abhey Chautala, is all set to enter politics now. Yo Yo’s entry into the poll campaign of the INLD has been made possible because of the entry of the young blood in the INLD.
Speaking to Firstpost, Dushyant Chautala said he was very happy with the popularity of Honey Singh’s song. "Many people have told me how good the song is. It is very attractive to the younger generation especially,’’ he said.
According to Karan Chautala, the Yo Yo number, which is the signature campaign tune of the INLD, is not just for the young. It is also being aimed at various sections of society, including youth, women, farmers, labourers and all the people who are looking for a change.
The INLD feels the promotional song will prove to be very helpful of building up the party’s image. INLD has been a rural based party and has a strong base among the Jats.
The video of the song is custom made for the INLD.
Rapper Honey Singh is seen campaigning for the party and seeking votes in the name of Tau (late Chaudhary Devi Lal, whose 100th birth anniversary was celebrated by the party on September 25 in Haryana). Singh’s earthy tone and foot-tapping music makes the song very appealing.
According to Dushyant Chautala, the INLD MP from Hisar, Honey Singh was roped in because of his popularity and the fact that he is close to the INLD. Sources in the INLD say looking at the instant popularity of the song, more songs and videos of Honey Singh could tumble out soon.
Even as the rapper’s new song is proving to be a chartbuster from among the party songs, till date no other song from any party has been able to match it in popularity.
Rahul Rajkiran, a college going student from Chandigarh, said he is deeply impressed by the song. “My foot starts tapping every time the song goes on air. I don’t know how much good it will do to the party, but it surely is very attractive and manages to draw attention of the people to the INLD. This is all because of Honey Singh", he said.
