The online reports about the development of anAndroid TV by Google are gaining momentum with each passing day. Google's prior attempt in the television domain with Google TV (set top box) failed at making a holding in the market. But this time around, Google is putting its massively successful Android in the latest set top box, giving Google TV a complete revamp.
For the development of content to be made available on Android TV, Google is also collaborating with app developers. The Android TV will also provide third party support like Hulu, Netflix, Pandora and Vevo in addition to indigenous apps. Android TV will have the familiar Google search, notification system and voice input to control the new user interface.
According to Google "Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform. It's all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction." Google also says the experience will be "cinematic, fun, fluid, and fast."
Using the Android TV, users will be able to buy and download games, apps, and rent or purchase media content right from the set-top box. For navigation and surfing, the box will pack in a four way directional remote control. There is no official word on its release date from Google as yet.
