Rohtak/Bhopal: India's cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar today denied media reports that he would be campaigning for nine Congress election rallies in Madhya Pradesh.
Senior officials of Haryana Cricket Association today quoted Tendulkar as saying "I have no plans to campaign for or join any political party. My only focus is my last two matches for which I am preparing here."
This comment was not made on camera. Tendulkar is here to play Ranji match as part of his preparation for the last two Tests of his career.
Earlier in the day in Bhopal, the Madhya Pradesh Congress today declared that Sachin Tendulkar has agreed to address nine election rallies in Madhya Pradesh during November.
Party spokesperson Pramod Dugalia said the consent from Tendulkar has been received. "The final programme is yet to be chalked up", he added.
The Congress spokesperson said that all the prominent leaders of MP Congress are presently in Delhi busy with finalisation of tickets at the meetings of Screening Commitee and central election committee.
"On their return, Tendulkar's itinerary will be chalked out", he said. The assembly constituencies where Tendulkar will campaign will be finalised then.
Sachin Tendulkar is presently a nominated Rajya Sabha member.
Asked about Bollywood diva Rekha and actor Shah Rukh Khan campaigning for Congress, Dugalia said, the VIP protocol department of AICC was in touch with both the celebrities, and their consents are being awaited.
