Asaram Bapu moves Supreme Court against media coverage

Controversial self-styled godman Asaram Bapu has approached the Supreme Court on Tuesday against the media coverage of his trial.

The godman is lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail since September 1 for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in his ashram in Jodhpur.

A Jodhpur court has extended Asaram and his attendant Shiva's custody till October 11. Shilpi, another aide of the godman, has been sent to eight-day judicial custody.

On Sunday, two sisters from Surat in Gujarat have filed a rape case against the jailed godman and his son Narayan Sai. They said the incidents took place between 2002 and 2004.

Gujarat Police have also booked Asaram's wife Lakshmi and his daughter Bharti for alleged involvement in the conspiracy.

The two sisters in their FIR said Asaram raped the elder one at his Ahmedabad ashram and his son raped the younger one in Surat.

The new complaint comes after Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday rejected Asaram's bail plea.
