An Open Letter To Mahendra Singh Dhoni

An Open Letter To Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Dear MSD,
Not many lads get a chance to play the gentleman’s game on a professional level, especially in a country like ours where every neighborhood is brewing the next Tendulkar. But Mahi, you proved that you are worthy to play the game at an early stage, and how heroically have you played since you started. Not only did you give a new ‘be cool’ outlook to the game, but also made sure that being cool brings the World Cup back to us. You played the mega event not once, not twice, but thrice! And with each passing World Cup, the name Dhoni became inseparable from the Indian cricket team.

From being a regular wicketkeeper to becoming a vital cog in the batting order to being that guiding angel for the team, your efforts for the national cricket team goes beyond words. Back in 2011, when India won the World Cup after 28 years, EVERY Indian was overjoyed, and praised you with phrases like “Best Captain Ever.”

All the praises came to a halt when India visited Australia last year for the dreadful test series, a series that made you bid adieu to the Test cricket for good! This was followed by even more disastrous ODI tri-series. The world became a vindictive arrogant leech ready to suck the life out of you!

But, then the mega cricketing event came. Honestly, with the ODI and the Test series debacle, we never thought that you’d come this far. But you proved us wrong, and enticed an amazing flare of hope and inspiration.

One last thing that every Indian is redolent of right now: We won’t give back the Cup. The odds may be against…hell, they are against us. Beating Australia in Australia is a mammoth of a task but the name MSD is known for overcoming the odds.
All in all, we all believe in you Dhoni and want you to lift the World Cup once again! Because back home, Ziva, with billion others, is with you on this one.
Yours Faithfully,
An Optimist Indian Fan

India vs Australia: Clarke wary of formidable Indian bowling in semi-final

India vs Australia: Clarke wary of formidable Indian bowling in semi-final

Sydney: Australian skipper Michael Clarke on Wednesday said he is wary of the Indian bowling line-up, but insisted they are confident in successfully countering whatever the opposition hurls at them in Thursday's crunch semi-final contest.
Speaking at the pre-match media conference, Clarke said: "I think the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in general is a really good wicket. I think it's normally even for both batting and bowling. As always I think spin will play a part, but it's generally as good a place to bat as anywhere in the world."
"So I'm confident this game will be no different. It will be a challenge. India have a very good bowling line-up. A good mixture of spin and fast bowling. We've obviously had success with that attack through this tournament.
"So the batters are as well prepared as we can be for what we're going to face, and now we have to go out and execute," he said.
The 33-year-old skipper felt experience in such big games will count on Thursday but also highlighted the importance of youth a squad needs to win big tournaments.
"I think experience in big games makes a difference, yeah. I think in any sport the best balanced team has a mixture of that. It has the experience, but it also has the youth as well, and I'm really confident that our squad has that.
"I think every single one of those players in there has been a part of some big tournaments through their career. You have some older players that have played in World Cups and had success in World Cups, and you've got some youngsters with unbelievable talent, no fear at all, and look forward to what is thrown at them tomorrow in a semi-final of the World Cup," he added.
Clarke also said it would be a very special contest since late batsman Phillip Hughes was struck by a fatal bouncer on this very ground but the hosts have to be at the top of their game to outdo the Indians.
"It is going to be a very special game, there is no doubt about it. We love playing at the Sydney Cricket Ground, as do India. It has extra special meaning because of what's happened in the past few months," the right-handed batsman said.
"But World Cup semi-final, you don't need more motivation. We want to have success. Every time we walk on the field we want to win as an Australian cricketer. Tomorrow will be no different, but we're going to have to be at our best to beat India," he signed off.

Land Bill amended for welfare of farmers: Modi in Mann Ki Baat

Addressing the nation's farmers in his monthly radio address 'Mann ki Baat' programme, PM Modi said he was surprised by rumours against the Land Acquisition Bill and defended the legislation saying it was aimed at the welfare of farmers.

"If states have objection to amendments in Land Acquisition Bill, they can continue with the old law," Modi said.

The Prime Minister even said there were some "lacunae" in the Land Act of 2013 "as it was enacted in a hurry" and these are being addressed while protecting the interests of farmers and villages.

Specifically referring to the consent clause issue, he said misinformation is being spread for "political reasons".

During the 30-minute programme, he underlined that the new bill being brought by his government has the same compensation provisions as in the 2013 Act and emphatically rejected that the new measure was aimed at benefiting the corporates.

Slamming those opposing the bill, Modi said political leaders who were protesting against the bill have governed under the old law which has failed to benefit the farmers in the last 60 years.

"With this Mann Ki Baat, the administration will get a strong message to resolve your issues," Modi added.

The episode comes at a time when the BJP government is facing staunch criticism over introducing the controversial land ordinance.

PM Modi has also invited citizens to share their ideas and thoughts on the subject in the Open Forum at MyGov.in.

Here are the highlights:

11: 31 am: We are emphasising on health of our mother land as well, which is why, we have started soil health card scheme: PM Modi .

11: 26 am: I have said in Parliament that if someone still feels some changes are required, we are willing to take up suggestions: PM Narendra Modi.

11:21 am: I appeal to all my farmer brothers and sisters to keep away from statements made to earn political benefits: PM Modi.

11:19 am: Sometimes, people who make laws sitting in air conditioned rooms, do not know the ground reality in villages: PM Narendra Modi.

11:17 am:  If states have objection to amendments in land acquisition bill, they can continue with the old law: PM Narendra Modi.

11:12 am : We felt that there was a need to bring some amendments in the law, we only wish the welfare of people and villages: PM Modi.

11:09 am:  We want the welfare of  farmers, their children and their villages. We want to overcome the shortcomings: PM on land bill.

11:05 am:  There are several misconceptions in people's minds regarding the land bill: Modi.

World Cup 2015: Australia beat Pakistan, set up clash semifinal clash with India

World Cup 2015: Australia beat Pakistan, set up clash semifinal clash with India

Adelaide: Four-time former champions Australia set up an explosive semifinal clash against title-holders India in the cricket World Cup semifinal after comprehensively beating Pakistan by six wickets in the mega-event’s third quarterfinal here today.
Set a modest target of 214, Australia overcame a tumultuous start to go past the finishing line in 33.5 overs after the home pacers, led by Josh Hazlewood (4/35), wrecked the Pakistani line-up.
Steve Smith top-scored for the Aussies with a 69-ball 65 knock, which was studded with seven fours, while all-rounder Shane Watson survived early jitters to carefully craft an unbeaten 66-ball 64, including seven fours and a six.
Pakistan had themselves to blame for the World Cup ouster as they dropped two easy catches, allowing the hosts to wriggle out of a precarious position.
Australia’s chase was not off to a very smooth start with opener Aaron Finch departing in the third over after contributing just 2 runs. The David Warner blitzkrieg also ended pretty quickly after the dasher had made 24 off 23 deliveries, including three fours.
In fact, Wahab Riaz was simply outstanding in his opening spell of six overs, during which he snared two wickets conceding only 24 runs.
The pacer bowled with aggression and passion, unsettling the Aussies with not just his deliveries but also with occasional glares and constant chirps, which irked the batsmen and invited jeers from the packed crowd.
Riaz could well have pulled off three wickets in the opening spell had Rahat Ali held on to a dolly in the 17th over when Watson was on just 4 runs. He eventually finished with figures of 2/54 from nine overs.
Australians were poised rather precariously at 59 for three after skipper Michael Clarke (8) failed to click. However, Smith and Watson shared 89 runs for the fourthwicket to steer Australia out of trouble before Glenn Maxwell(44 not out) guided them to victory and a semifinal showdown with India on March 26 in Sydney.

5 Reasons Why Dogs Are Better Than People

5 Reasons Why Dogs Are Better Than People

Dogs really are wonderful creatures. And the more you meet people, the more you come to love dogs. They say dogs are better than humans and we’re sure a lot of you agree. Humans may be considered to be the most intelligent species, but there’s no way we can ever become better creatures than dogs. Here are 15 reasons why.
1. If there is one emotion the human race needs to learn from a dog , it is loyalty. If a dog has ever loved you, he will always be there for you, come what may.

2. Your physical appearance, your pay scale, your bank balance – the dog judges you on none. You can make a fool out of yourself and be assured they will join you in all the madness.

3. There will never come a time when your dog wouldn’t want to see you. They always make you feel wanted.

4. It doesn’t take much to win a dog’s heart. A pat on the head, a two-minute belly rub or just an old shoe – they find joy in the smallest things in life. 4. It doesn’t take much to win a dog’s heart. A pat on the head, a two-minute belly rub or just an old shoe – they find joy in the smallest things in life.

5. They don’t think too much; they just do what they feel like. They curl up by your side when they want to be with you, they fetch a ball when they want you to play with them, they lick you if they like you – without wanting anybody’s approval. If you come to think of it, they are much freer than you and I.

Indian Army plans were leaked to Pakistan’s ISI in 2014

Revealed: Indian Army plans were leaked to Pakistan’s ISI in 2014

Indian Army movement plans were leaked to Pakistani spy agency ISI in February last year.
According to information accessed by India TV, plan of operational talks between the then Defence Minister AK Antony and former Army Chief General VK Bikram Singh on February 15, 2014 were leaked.
Sources said that Antony and Singh were talking about deployment of forces bordering Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan in room number 104 of the Ministry of Defence. Room number 104 in the Ministry belongs to the Defence Minister.
Sources said that the ISI was aware of the details of 11 am talks between Antony and Singh. The meeting between the two lasted for an hour.
After the meeting, Army Chief at around 12 noon briefed the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) Chief Lieutenant General Vinod Bhatia about the redeployment plan. Within a few hours, the Pakistan Army too began redeploying its troops.
The military intelligence then alerted that Pakistan was also redeploying its troops to counter India’s plan.
Singh then informed Antony of a possible leak, who then briefed the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Prime Minister then visited the DGMO war room and chaired a meet of Army top brass. The Army successfully managed to identify the mole. He was identified as a senior Army officer. He was subsequently court-martialed for leaking crucial information to ISI.
Soon after this incident, the government decided to install CCTVs across the Ministry in the South Block.
